LOGI-DRONE – Security Considerations

Security is a core design principle of the LOGI-DRONE project.

This document outlines high-level security assumptions, design goals, and threat considerations relevant to an autonomous swarm-based logistics system. It is intended for architectural discussion, research, and feasibility analysis only.

No operational or exploit-level details are provided.


Security Philosophy

LOGI-DRONE follows a security-by-design approach, where security is considered from the earliest architectural stages rather than added as an afterthought.

Key principles include:

  • least privilege
  • defense in depth
  • resilience over perfection
  • graceful degradation under attack or failure

Threat Model (High-Level)

The system is assumed to operate in contested or constrained environments where the following threats may exist:

  • communication interception or disruption
  • spoofing or impersonation of swarm nodes
  • denial-of-service against coordination mechanisms
  • navigation interference (e.g., GNSS degradation or spoofing)
  • partial loss or compromise of individual units

Threat modeling is considered an ongoing process and evolves with system design maturity.


Communication Security

At a conceptual level, the system considers:

  • authenticated communication between swarm nodes
  • confidentiality and integrity of data in transit
  • resistance to replay and injection attacks
  • decentralized communication models to reduce single points of failure

Specific protocols and implementations are out of scope for this repository.


Swarm Resilience & Fault Tolerance

Security and resilience are treated as interconnected concerns.

Design assumptions include:

  • tolerance to individual node loss or failure
  • distributed coordination without reliance on a single controller
  • degradation modes that preserve partial mission capability
  • isolation of anomalous or untrusted nodes

Navigation & Positioning Considerations

Dependence on external navigation signals is treated as a risk factor.

Conceptual mitigations may include:

  • multi-source positioning strategies
  • plausibility checks and anomaly detection
  • fallback behaviors under degraded navigation conditions

Details remain conceptual and non-operational.


Software & Lifecycle Security

From a lifecycle perspective, the project considers:

  • secure update mechanisms
  • integrity of software and configuration
  • traceability of system changes
  • controlled decommissioning and data handling

Implementation specifics are intentionally excluded.


Responsible Disclosure

This repository does not host operational code or deployed systems.

If potential security concerns or conceptual weaknesses are identified, they should be discussed responsibly through:

  • architectural feedback
  • design review discussions
  • private communication where appropriate

Final Note

Security in autonomous swarm systems is a system-level property, not a single feature.

LOGI-DRONE treats security as an evolving design discipline, tightly coupled with architecture, resilience, and operational context.
