Proposing a few things I've found to be highly valuable. The research item is a dense read, and I mean dense, but I strongly recommend anyone interested in code review check it out.
@joho I opted to go the route of including all of these things in 1 pull request instead of cluttering up the Open queue with many. If you'd prefer I split up a pull request for each addition I'd be happy to do so.
