`maim -s` captures the selection while it's still blurred (with picom enabled)

When using maim -s and selecting a region, the entire screen is blurred before the selection is made.

Once the selection is made, one would except the snip to not be blurred, but this is not the
case when a compositor such as picom is running.

I think you have to add -o to the maim command you're running. Like this - maim -s -o img.png. This parameter disables opengl, which is mainly the cause of the blur. By disabling opengl, the blur will be removed.

While this is a good (albeit untested) workaround, it still doesn't solve the root issue (the race condition between blur/unblur and capture moments).

You should be able to just exclude the slop "window" from being blurred by picom. I had the same issue and fixed it by putting "class_g = 'slop'" into the blur-background-exclude list in the picom config.
So the final list looks something like this:

blur-background-exclude = [
    ...
    "class_g = 'slop'"
];
