Make substitutions only after tab

This is a great plugin but I'd like to have more control over the substitutions. There are cases when I'm markdown where I'd like to substitute for a greek letter and other cases where I don't, for example.

Is there any way to trigger the substitution only after TAB instead of any separator? (Basically the same behavior IPython has.)
