Feature description
Enforce the 255 B length limit immediately when the new filename is being entered, either
- (a) as a hard limit, or
- (b) (preferably) by a red hint "filename too long" and the
OK button greyed out.
Why do you want this feature?
The silent omission of some parts of the information entered by the user for it to be the new filename comes as a bad surprise when later discovered.
Contrary to that risk, there's no use in letting the user submit a longer name than allowed on disk.
The user should rather encounter the limitation immediately, and thereby, be warned and enabled to adjust the new name accordingly in a more sensible, controlled way.
