SSH Commands to turn the screen on and off correctly when a schedule is enabled

I built the LED matrix but also have a pi zero 2w that is connected to an LCD screen with a push button.
I have the pi zero button coded such that when the button is pressed the first time it runs the following commands (after SSH connection to piled)
cd LEDMatrix
sudo ./start_display.sh

and then the next time the button is pressed
cd LEDMatrix
sudo ./stop_display.sh

1. when the screen turns off a few LEDs may still be lighting - any way to properly turn off the LED matrix?

I abonded this due to not being able to reliably turn off the led (due to some pixels being still lit). Now i just use the schedule.
